September 27

OK, here are the photo's from our September 27 ride! We again attacked Wynn (Winn) Mountain and again we missed the trail up to the top! Twice in a row, but next time we'll do it!

HUMMER1A.jpg (51673 bytes)Getting started, here I am in front of my Hummer. It's a 95 white wagon, and with this ride we had both me in my wagon, and Chris Reilly in his bright white turbo wagon! We looked like twins going down the trail! Also with us was Dennis Minum in his black gas wagon.

HUMMER2A.jpg (48977 bytes)Wadda you mean, the trail is sloped? If interested that is about a three foot deep hole I've driven into. At one point, the left rear tire was a few feet off the ground. The Hummer, with its wide stance, loved it.

HUMMER3A.jpg (55976 bytes)Hey, who put this tree here? Fallen from right to left, there were some scars where someone else had tried to sneak under. Not us--Chris has a roof rack, and a light bar on his Hummer, and I wasn't going to try it anyway. Out comes the chain saw (absolutely necessary when running trails here in Hew Hampshire, where trees grow like grass),

HUMMER4A.jpg (66861 bytes)Yep, this should not be a problem. Honest, I thought the right end was just stuck in the dirt-- Well, I'm not always right: it had grown on the top of the bank and then fell over in one of our many winter storms. We could not see a single root until I started winching it out of the way. Then we could see it was firmly attached at the base!

HUMMER5A.jpg (46715 bytes)We stuck on the big chain and hooked it up to the Hummer's winch. With a bit of groaning, and some time, the end I cut off was moved over to the other side of the trail. A bit of clean up with the snatch block moved it all the way to the side of the trail--that tree has claimed it's last victim!
